Daily Dose
From Geoffrey Chaucer of England, written & decorated by Marchette Chute
A FOOTNOTE
"To say that Chaucer's work does not scan is the equivalent of saying that Pope was careless when he rhymed 'join' with 'divine.' Pope was never careless. It was the growth of the English language that betrayed him when 'join' was no longer pronounced 'jine.'"
