Daily Dose

From Edward Lear and His World, by John Lehmann

IN HIS LATTER YEARS

"In his latter years he maintained that he kept 'specimens' of letters from no less than 'four hundred and forty-four individuals', and once wrote that 'every human capable of writing ever since the invention of letters must have written to me, with a few exceptions perhaps, such as the prophet Ezekiel, Mary Queen of Scots, and the Venerable Bede.'"
