Especially after I built up ...I loved hand-selling. Especially after I built up a "following" - those people who usually bought anything I recommended, in person or on a shelf-talker. I'm sure all booksellers build up that kind of fan base, if you will. And I learned also to pay attention to the recommendations of my coworkers. And, of course, as you say, a recommendtion is not an opinion. <br /><br />After years of working at an insurance company where I was known as "that guy who's always reading", by people who did not read much or know my name, it was such a joy to have that be a reason people sought me out rather than something a little strange and subversive.<br /><br />And I loved the story of the porfessors (as Vidal likes to spell it).Richardnoreply@blogger.com
